As wedding/elopement photographers, we often see couples get swept up in the planning and details, only to look back wishing they had slowed down and soaked it all in. But not Brooke + Jesus. Their day was everything an elopement should be: intentional, present, and deeply connected.
Both photography lovers themselves, Brooke + Jesus share a passion for film photography. From the beginning, they knew they wanted their elopement to be captured entirely on 35mm film. It brought such a raw, nostalgic energy to the day and allowed us all to move through each moment slowly and intentionally, savoring every frame.
Their morning began under clouds and a light drizzle, leaving the desert air surprisingly cool for June in Arizona. At 5:00 AM, we met them in the parking lot of Papago Park in Phoenix AZ, where they gathered with a few of their closest loved ones. From there, we all hiked about 15–20 minutes to the Papago Park Amphitheater, watching the sunrise light up the red rock as we captured quiet, stunning moments along the way.
When we reached the amphitheater, a few more family members were already waiting, and the rest of the group arrived shortly after. Everyone had a chance to greet the couple with hugs before the ceremony began. The ceremony itself was heartfelt and simple, just about 15 minutes long, and made all the more special by the fact that Brooke’s grandfather officiated. It was one of those moments you could feel in your chest, so sweet, so sincere.
Afterward, we took family portraits and romantic shots of the two of them, still glowing from the ceremony, before they headed off for an intimate breakfast with their people and then jetted off to begin their honeymoon.
Brooke + Jesus chose to be fully present for every moment of their day, and it made all the difference. Their elopement was a beautiful reminder that your wedding doesn’t need to be big to be unforgettable, it just needs to feel like you.
